Topic 1. Would you want to know? One reason for personal DNA testing is to find out if you are genetically-predisposed to a particular disorder. Armed with that knowledge, you might be able to take countermeasures to prevent the disease, such as more frequent checkups, diet, exercise and so forth. Actor Angelina Jolie, upon learning that she was genetically predisposed to develop breast cancer underwent a double mastectomy.

Consider the hypothetical case in which such testing shows that you are predisposed to a disorder for which there is no known treatment or preventative, such as Alzheimer’s disease. Would you want to know that, if it were the case? Explain your reasons.
